Griffin Center Programs Selected for Arts Education Training Directory
Los Angeles, California
01/2011 Two arts & literacy learning programs developed by Griffin Center staff have been approved for listing in the Los Angeles County Arts Commission’s online Arts for All Professional Development Directory: 1) Griffin Arts and Literacy Solutions (GALS): Using Arts Strategies as Literacy Intervention Part I and Part II; and 2) Relevant Topics in Standards-based Arts Education: Examining Standards, Assessment, Best Practice and Teaching for Transfer and Dance and Literacy.
A panel comprised of teachers, artists and administrators from universities, school districts and schools evaluated applications for 44 programs and made recommendations to approve 24 programs (representing 15 artists and organizations). Panel decisions were based upon criteria for quality professional development in arts education that specifically evaluate demonstrated experience and qualifications, program design and transfer of knowledge.
The Directory provides centralized access to quality, peer reviewed arts education professional development programs. Participation through the website enables generalist teachers, arts specialists, teaching artists, school principals, and arts administrators to find professional development opportunities that meet their needs and support their efforts to provide high quality arts instruction for Los Angeles County students.
